Calhoun Ga., City Schools was named the Charter System of the Year Wednesday and received a $10,000 grant from the Georgia Association of Realtors due to its performance over the last year and the forward-thinking of its educators.

The announcement was made during 2nd Annual Charter System Foundation Awards Luncheon, hosted by Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, who highlighted the achievements of Georgia Charter Systems.

“Calhoun City Schools are at the forefront of educational innovation and flexibility, embracing new education delivery models to ensure that every student has access to opportunity and success,” he said. “They embrace the individuality of each student and enrich the educational process by encouraging them to follow their passion while pursuing career paths that are both intellectually stimulating and professionally rewarding.”

According to a news release from the office of the lieutenant governor, the award is intended to celebrate “a system that has demonstrated excellence in leadership governance, partnerships and achievement.”

Calhoun City Schools was lauded for mentoring other systems while actively encouraging participation by parents and teachers to participate in school level governance.

The school has a 95 percent graduation rate and, according to the release, outperforms its public school counterparts.

“Calhoun City Schools truly embody the future of education in Georgia,” Cagle said.
