Nolan buys new iPads for students

More students at Nolan Elementary will have access to iPads after the school’s recent purchase of 128 new devices for student use.

Four of the new iPads will be assigned to each classroom teacher in kindergarten through fifth grade for students to use in class.

“It’s meant to supplement the BYOD initiative,” principal Shane Harwood said. The Bring Your Own Device pilot program is being implemented at all three Signal Mountain schools as a way to integrate classroom learning with technology. “It will help supply iPads for students not able to bring their own device.”

The schools have yet to begin the BYOD pilot program, which will involve just fourth- and fifth-graders at Nolan.

“We’re still waiting on a guest server to be installed,” Harwood said, explaining the holdup.

The 128 iPads were purchased with funds from the Mountain Education Foundation as well as the school’s PTA, said Harwood.
