It is always highly dangerous when police officers find themselves in a confrontation with an armed individual in a tense and obviously threatening situation. But such an unfortunate incident occurred Monday night near the East Ridge Fire and Police Services Center.
The details and causes were not immediately clear. But many shots were fired, with the result that a not immediately identified man was seriously wounded. Fortunately, no police officers were injured.
That regrettable incident is a harsh reminder that police officers never know what they may face when they go on duty each day.
Bad situations may develop without prediction or explanation, and may have very serious results.
