Boy Scouts — 100 years (so far!)

Several hundred good citizens gathered at The Chattanoogan yesterday to celebrate a hundred years — so far — of character-building, skills-development and fun by the Boy Scouts of America, and to inspire thousands of boys to achieve much in the years ahead.

They were welcomed by Council President Adm. Ron Eytchison.

The Scout Oath says it all: “On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.”

At the event chaired by Tom Griscom, motivational speaker Josh Sundquist really motivated. Having lost his left leg to cancer before he was 10, Josh nevertheless became an Eagle Scout — and a snow skier!

“We can’t decide what happens to us in life,” he said. “But we can decide what to do about it.”

The luncheon permitted interested Chattanoogans to provide finances to help inspire the more than 6,500 local Boy Scouts to rise above possible problems in their lives, and to achieve admirable goals.

The Boy Scout Law says, “A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent.”

Isn’t it wonderful for our community that we have so many Boy Scouts, leaders and contributors in Chattanooga?
