On a cloudy day at Jim Frost Stadium, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team wrapped up a perfect weekend of play with another early offensive outburst and its 11th consecutive victory.
The Lady Mocs (12-3) jumped on UT-Martin for five first-inning runs and cruised to a fairly easy 8-2 win Sunday in their final game at the Frost Classic.
UTC’s offense has been outstanding during the current win streak, with the team hitting .371 with 16 home runs while outscoring opponents 91-26.
Junior pitcher Michelle Fuzzard earned the win for UTC, improving her record to 6-1 on the season. She allowed four hits and two runs over four innings and struck out two before giving way to Kandice Irwin, who pitched three scoreless innings to earn her fourth save of the season.
“Fuzzard did a great job,” said UTC coach Frank Reed. “And we’ve got that combo to put together with her and Kandice, so why not use it? When you get down to the last three innings and can give it to Kandice, it’s like rolling on into the house.”
