Two men charged in connection with the shooting death of 38-year-old Steve Mosley had trial dates reset Monday morning.
Both Devante Stoudemire, 22, and Ronald Cosper, 20, are charged with felony murder, attempt to commit especially aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit especially aggravated robbery in connection with the killing. Dustin Hayes, 20, also is charged with the same counts.
Cosper also is charged with criminal trespassing, aggravated criminal trespassing and possession of a deadly weapon.
On Monday, Cosper’s attorney, Andrew Basler, requested more time to familiarize himself with the case, which was transferred to him just before Thanksgiving. Prosecutors plan to try Cosper first, meaning Stoudemire’s trial would need to be moved as well.
Judge Barry Steelman reset Cosper’s trial date for March 31 and Stoudemire’s trial for April 14.
New trial date set for accused killer
A judge on Monday refused to reduce bond for a man accused of robbing and killing a man on Hooker Road last spring.
Judge Barry Steelman said he would not reduce Marcus Birt’s $1 million bond as his attorney requested. Steelman said prior testimony from a witness that she and her children had been threatened made him hesitant to lower the bond to a number that would allow Birt to be released.
It did make him want to push up Birt’s trial date.
Steelman set the trial for Feb. 24.
Birt is charged with felony murder and especially aggravated robbery in the March shooting death of Warren Ransom, 33.
