GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – An eastern Tennessee man has been charged with mail fraud after prosecutors say he used more than $200,000 in counterfeit postage over a two-year period.
Jason Matthew Smalling of Piney Flats agreed to a one-count bill of information charging him with sending 312 priority mail packages using fake postage from the Bluff City post office.
The Kingsport Times-News reported that Smalling ran a business called Value Decals. Prosecutors say Smalling created and sold vinyl decals, some being generic images with others being the logos of professional sports teams from August 2011 through June 2013.
Prosecutors say some of the logos were unlicensed reproductions.
Prosecutors say Smalling used computer software to reproduce postage information, but allowing him to manipulate it so he wouldn’t have to pay to send the packages.
