Chattamoms: Cute kids contest and homework tip

CUTE KIDS CONTEST

Do people tell you that you’ve got the cutest kids in town? Enter a photo of your child in the Chattamoms.com monthly Cute Kids Photo Contest. Enter at the Web site today through March 14. Online voting is March 15-31, and the winner will be announced in print Sunday, April 4. The winner’s family will receive a one-year membership to the Tennessee Aquarium or the Creative Discovery Museum.

HOMEWORK TIP

Talk to the teachers. “Establish a dialogue on homework policies from the beginning, including how involved you’re expected to be,” suggests Susan Kane, editor-in-chief of Parenting: School Years magazine.

Make sure you understand his or her definition of homework.

“Typically the purpose is to practice what is already known, with the theory that time on task helps them learn,” says Frances Stott, professor of child development at the Erikson Institute. “Find out if the material is being taught in class. And if it’s something the child is having trouble with, ask if the teacher can provide extra support during class.”

CAN YOU HELP THIS MOM?

“My kids and I love to make fun recipes to celebrate the different holidays and seasons. Do any ‘Chattamoms’ have any good St. Patrick’s Day ideas?”
