The board of directors for A Night To Remember posted condolences to R&B artist Teena Marie on its website this week following her death Sunday at age 54. The Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter was set to headline the 2011 gala on April 8.
“The organization asks that you remember Teena Marie’s family in your thoughts and prayers through this difficult time,” the notice said.
The board “will update the community with information regarding the 2011 event as it becomes available.”
In its more than 20-year history, A Night To Remember has raised $4 million for local agencies that offer education and cultural enrichment for local students. Recipients have included Girls Inc., 100 Black Men, Chattanooga African-American Museum, Boy Scouts of America and Ballet Tennessee.
