The 2010 Tennessee Antiquarian Book Fair will be this weekend at Monterey Station in Cowan, Tenn. The fair is expected to draw book collectors and other buyers from across the United States to peruse books from 45 dealers.
Tom McGee, president of the Tennessee Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association, said this is the first such fair in Tennessee since 2000. Though the selection of a small town might seem improbable, McGee calls the decision “a unique and bold move.”
European booksellers are familiar with the possibilities of a small-town book fair because of the success of a fair held in Hay-on-Wye, Wales,” an event he described as “the British Bonnaroo of Books.”
Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. General admission is $5, which includes the speaker sessions at the nearby Cowan Center for the Arts. For more information, visit www.tennaba.org.
