Chattanooga residents are encouraged to ride bicycles to work Friday for national bike to work day.

Those who do are invited to a free breakfast at the Waterhouse Pavilion in Miller Plaza between 7:30-9:00 a..m.

The event is part of bike to work week, which is being programmed locally by Green Trips Chattanooga, an arm of the Regional Planning Agency that incentivizes alternative means of transportation for local residents.

Bicyclists are then invited to ride together from Miller Plaza join mayor Andy Berke at Big River Grille on Broad Street between 12-1 p.m.

The day will be capped at Miller Plaza for Nightfall, where bicyclists are encouraged to mingle with motorcyclists and promote road safety at the free weekly summer concert series.

Green Trips is also a partner in the effort by local bike shops to promote bicycle commuting as the city proceeds with a bicycle implementation plan that has been controversial at times.
