Travel Bug
The day after our April issue published, I received this email from the marketing reps of one of our featured road trip towns:
“I was just telling our executive director an hour ago that road-trip destinations will be the first to rebound once people are ready to be out and about again. There may be some people who will never again travel by air or bus.”
Last Monday, my mother booked us airline reservations for my now (hopefully) annual birthday trip to Mackinac Island. Even though it’s at the end of July, we realize it’s a gamble. But beyond the ridiculously low airfare that comes with it, I am now heartened by my memories of the charming Michigan summer resort town and the anticipation of more to come.
I still cannot fathom the situation the world currently finds itself in, what it will look like when everything is said and done, or when that day will finally come. But I also can’t imagine closing myself off to the world forever.
