When a new production of “Macbeth” opens at Broadway’s Longacre Theatre this spring, all eyes will be on James Bond himself, actor Daniel Craig, the man with his name in big letters on the marquee.

But a whole bunch of Chattanoogans, especially McCallie theater students, will keep an eye out for Stevie Ray Dallimore in the off chance Craig can’t perform. Dallimore is Craig’s understudy in the play, and while he knows everyone in the audience is there to see Craig in the lead every night, he also understands what his role is and what a great opportunity it is.

“I have to be there every day and be ready to go if needed,” Dallimore said in a phone call between classes at McCallie.

Dallimore is the director of theater at the school and teaches freshman English and beginning film to upper school students.

He said he understands what audiences want – “Daniel Craig is the star, and he is James Bond. Come on.” – but he still has a place in the cast and crew.
