Tennessee’s governor-elect, Bill Haslam, has demonstrated excellent judgment by choosing Hamilton County Mayor Claude Ramsey to become his deputy governor and chief of staff.
Haslam couldn’t have made a better choice!
Ramsey is in his fifth term as an outstanding mayor of Hamilton County.
Over many years, Ramsey has demonstrated good character, admirable integrity, excellent judgment and devotion to good governmental service.
We are confident that he will be of great value to us all in his new roles as well.
As a young man, Ramsey first came to widespread local public attention when he was recognized for raising and marketing large crops of high-quality strawberries on his Hamilton County farm.
Ramsey later entered politics and was elected as a Hamilton County-based House representative in the Tennessee General Assembly. He served faithfully and well.
Subsequently, his good service was recognized as he was elected and served commendably as Hamilton County’s assessor of property — and then as our county mayor.
He was recognized in 2003 as “Chattanooga Area Manager of the Year.”
In all of his service, Ramsey has demonstrated good judgment, stability and devotion to our people.
Members of the Hamilton County Commission now face the responsibility of selecting a worthy successor to carry on the good service that Mayor Ramsey has provided.
We congratulate both Ramsey and Haslam as they prepare to lead Tennessee.
