Eagles are running wild

Signal Mountain hopes to throw wave after wave at Trinity Christian Saturday in Cookeville when the two play for Tennessee’s Class 2A football championship.

The Lions are likely to see a first wave of Eagles running backs and then a second and even a third plus varied combinations of each.

“I guess I have changed over the years,” said Eagles coach Bill Price who along with his team is making his first state championship journey. “I always had one running back and I pounded [with] him, a lot of times out of necessity. That’s not the situation at Signal Mountain. We have six or seven backs that rotate and any one of them could be that one back. We’re able to keep a fresh guy in there and it has been good for us.”

In one game earlier this season 13 players including quarterback Hogan Whitmire carried the ball.

“We probably have 10 guys that can run and each is a threat to take it all the way,” Whitmire said.
