ATLANTA – Forecasters say cold weather moving into Georgia could reach record breaking lows early this week.

National Weather Service forecasters say they’re expecting rain Sunday night through Monday in parts of central and north Georgia. Officials say most areas should be able to handle the roughly 2 inches of rain they’re anticipating because of recent dry conditions.

Meteorologists say an arctic air mass will follow the rain into the state, which is expected to mean subfreezing overnight temperatures in some areas early this week. Officials say they’re expecting record breaking low temperatures on Tuesday.

Forecasters say the arctic air mass is also expected to bring wind chills in the teens and single digits to many areas of Georgia early this week.
