TVA raises bills again in September

The typical Chattanooga electricity user will pay from $1 to $3 more next month because of higher fuel costs, TVA announced today.

TVA is raising its fuel cost adjustment in September by 2 percent, bringing the total fuel cost increases since March to more than 20 percent.

“Significantly lower hydro generation in July, along with higher than normal temperatures, forced TVA to rely on higher cost resources, including additional purchased power, to serve the region’s energy needs,” TVA said in a statement on its web site.

TVA said power sales in July were 9 percent higher than forecast and, as a result, fuel costs for July were 25 percent higher than expected.
