Polk County Executive Mike Stinnett lost his re-election bid to the man he took the job from in 2006.
Hoyt Firestone, who served as Polk county executive from 1986 until 2006, beat Mr. Stinnett in the Democratic primary contest. He will face Republican David L. Dishman in the Aug. 5 general election.
“I want to thank the other candidates for the professional and considerate manner in which they ran their campaigns,” Mr. Firestone said. “I’m grateful to the voters who had enough confidence in me.”
