After defeating previously 17th-ranked Samford Saturday, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team has been ranked No. 20 in the latest Football Championship Subdivision STATS (media) poll.

It’s the first time the Mocs have been ranked since falling to 0-3 last season after starting the year with losses to Jacksonville State, LSU and UT-Martin.

The Mocs improved to 4-0 with the 27-20 win over the Bulldogs, with a now 2-0 mark in the Southern Conference. They travel to East Tennessee State (3-1, 2-0) Saturday.

UTC is one of two SoCon teams ranked in the latest poll. Wofford (2-1, 2-0) moved up to seventh despite being off last week.

Earlier in the day, linebacker Marshall Cooper was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week after an eight-tackle performance against the Bulldogs that also featured an interception and a forced fumble. It’s Cooper’s second honor of his career, as he was named the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week after blocking a punt that led to the game-winning touchdown in the Mocs’ 10-3 win over ETSU in the 2017 season finale.
