U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann said: “I want to congratulate Paul on being elected as the next Speaker of the House. He brings great energy and experience to the position and I believe he will lead the House admirably. Paul has done a tremendous job as Chairman of the Budget Committee and the Ways and Means Committee and I look forward to working with him in his new role. Moving forward as a House we must continue to fight to rein in the size of government and reduce the burden on American families. I am confident we will do just that under Speaker Ryan’s leadership.

“Paul Ryan is a principled, conservative leader who knows how to work with others to get results. I look forward to working with him to help solve the big problems this country faces.”

U.S. Sen. Bob Corker said: “My friend Paul Ryan is a true leader who has shown he understands the depth of the fiscal challenges facing our nation. It is my hope that as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Paul will use his position to unite Congress around long-term solutions that will put our nation on a path to fiscal solvency so we can ensure our country’s greatness for generations to come. I am proud to congratulate him and wish him all the best as he assumes his new position.”

U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander said: “Paul Ryan is a principled, conservative leader who knows how to work with others to get results. I look forward to working with him to help solve the big problems this country faces.”

Graves hosts economic leaders

North Georgia U.S. Rep. Tom Graves met last week with Northwest Georgia leaders in Washington, D.C., to discuss their work promoting economic development in the region, specifically strengthening the flooring industry, according to a news release.

Georgia Tech’s economic development arm, the Enterprise Innovation Institute, along with the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission, helped organize the group of leaders and facilitate their efforts, Graves said. The groups formed an organization called Floor360, which recently won a federal grant to support job creation.

“Northwest Georgia has a rich history of manufacturing and trade, which was severely damaged during the recession,” Graves said. “It was inspiring to meet with community leaders and hear how they included the history of the flooring industry in their plans to bring this sector back to life.”
