OK, for a lot of our NFL fans around these parts, the Super Bowl LIII matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots does not offer a direct connection to either side.

Sure, there are a lot of Atlanta Falcons fans delighting in the agony of New Orleans fans and rooting against a Patriots team that dashed Atlanta’s title hopes a couple of years ago.

But for those of us who are relatively unaffiliated, here’s good cause to root for the closest of games next Sunday in the Super Bowl.

If the Rams and Patriots go into overtime, Buffalo Wild Wings will give away free wings to everyone.

Yes, everyone.

So in a season in which there were 15 overtime games, not to mention overtime sessions in each conference championship, Buffalo Wild Wings is putting millions on the line.

For those wondering: yes, you can bet on whether the game will go into overtime. Heck, you can bet on almost anything Super Bowl-related.

And now we all have reason to root for a tie at the end of regulation.

Sundae tipsy Sundae

I went to college in the South.

I’ve had a cocktail or 3,000.

But sweet buckets of Dairy Queen and holy barrels of Blizzards, did you see there was a 50-year-old Connecticut women who got pulled over as she slept behind the wheel? She got a DUI – at 4:45 in the afternoon, mind you – after failing sobriety tests.

Her pick of the potent potions? Vanilla extract.

Bottles of vanilla extract were tossed about in her car, and according to the FDA, some vanilla extract can be as high as 70 proof.

No wonder Nanny was always smiling and whistling while she baked.

Obit observations

Gang, I love the feedback and the amount of energy with which you guys and gals have embraced the conversations about recent obituaries in the Times Free Press.

This week, while there were a lot of folks who led lives of distinction and dignity, the one that jumped off the page was about Robert Ramsay.

Wow, Mr. Ramsay, you won at life. Big time.

Ramsay died Jan. 17, and check these made-for-Hollywood life milestones:

* Married for 72 years;

* Served in World War II in the Army Air Corps;

* Raised six kids with his wife, Bobbie (all graduated from college);

* Doting head of the family for 12 grandkids and 12 more great-grandkids;

* Worked for NASA during the space race in the 1960s and helped get an American on the moon;

* Was part of the original team that developed the MARTA mass transit system in and around Atlanta.

Wow. Well done, Robert.

Saturday stars

Teachers could be here almost every week. It’s a tough gig that has never been more vital.

Well, let’s tip the visor to the recently announced three Hamilton County teachers of the year.

Sara Pratt, a fourth-grade teacher at Apison Elementary School; Michele Jones, a fifth-grade teacher at Middle Valley Elementary School; and Kristen Robertson, a ninth-grade teacher at Signal Mountain Middle/High School, were honored Friday.

Kudos gang, and thanks for all you do. And for how well you do it.
