The Tyner girls’ basketball team needed its win over rival Brainerd last Friday. That’s why getting a dominant win Monday over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe in the first round of the Best of Preps Tournament was so pleasing for coach Terri Parks.
The Lady Rams’ Brittany McKinney had 21 points, and the Tyner defense keyed an 18-0 third-quarter run on their way to a 60-32 victory at Arts & Sciences.
“We talked at halftime about not letting up, not slacking and being conservative,” Parks said. “The third quarter is an essential quarter, and I thought we were able to establish our dominance.”
Tyner will face GPS in today’s semifinals. LFO will meet CSAS in the consolation bracket.
Parks noted that there are sometimes letdowns after big rivalry wins, so she was glad to see her team not get caught in that mentality.
