Woods even through four; Couples still leading as scoring becomes tougher
Update 11:45 a.m.
AUGUSTA, Ga. – After 31 players broke par on Thursday, scoring appears to be a little tougher today. Several players off the tee early have found some difficulties.
Some of the second-round carnage:
– Sandy Lyle is 12 over through 13 holes;
– Vijay Singh is 4 over through nine;
– Trevor Immelman is 2 over through 10;
Tiger Woods just made bogey at No. 4 to drop to even-par for today and to move back to 4 under for the tournament in his return to professional golf from his five-month hiatus because of the revelations of his sex scandal.
Not all the returns are bad, though.
Fred Couples is 1 under through seven holes today. The 50-year-old Couples, who won here in 1992, is leading the field by a shot over Ricky barnes, who has made birdie on two of his first three holes to move to 6 under.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Wow, the fireworks from the first round opened up a number of interesting storylines.
Don’t know if you heard, but Tiger Woods was back in golf.

The early returns today did not bode well for the veteran former champs, though.
Sandy Lyle, who won this event in 1988, opened with an impressive 3-under 69 Thursday. He went off the tee early today – and he went off badly. Lyle, 52, opened was 9 over through his first seven holes today and dropped to 6 over for the tournament.
Couples made par on No. 1 and of the early groups, Nick Watney made birdie at No. 5 to get to 5 under for the tournament.
