Authorities are investigating the death of an 8-year-old boy Thursday in Chickamauga, Georgia, according to a news release from the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.

Walker County dispatch received a 911 call about 8 p.m. reporting the discovery of a child’s dead body in the 100 block of Old Grand Center Road. An adult found the body in a wooded area about 50 yards behind a residence.

Walker County detectives and Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents have been on the scene Thursday night and Friday morning processing the area where the child was found. Authorities have been interviewing adults and children who lived at or were connected to the deceased child’s residence.

The child’s body will be transported to the GBI crime lab in Decatur, Georgia, for an autopsy.
