Meet the artists in River Gallery’s May exhibit when the gallery hosts a free reception Friday, May 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the gallery, 400 E. Second St.
This month’s featured artists are Sandra Blain, Deb Karash and Rachel Nicholson.
Blain is an Arizona sculptor who uses found objects and industrial refuse as tools to make impressions in her clay pieces. A professional ceramist since 1964, she was a professor of art at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville until 2004.
Karash is a North Carolina jewelry maker.
Nicholson is a North Carolina fiber artist. She grew up among the flowers her aunt grew for florists and was greatly influenced by field painters and abstract expressionists.
She creates feltworks that “venture beyond the strong ethnic heritage that often accompanies this medium.”
Their work will remain at the gallery through May 31. In-Town Gallery is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sundays.
