Greetings, outdoorspeople!
- Weekend forecast: Saturday; high 90, mostly cloudy/ Sunday; high 92, mostly sunny
- Recommended adventure: Get a blanket and sprawl out in Miller Park this Friday, May 22, for the kickoff of Sunset Cinema, a movie series in downtown Chattanooga. Hosted by Open Spaces, each night the event will partner with a nonprofit organization to help support its mission. This weekend, the film is “Up” and its cause is the Creative Discovery Museum.
- Pre-movie activities begin at 7:30 p.m. and include yard games, vendors, food trucks and more. The movie begins at 8:30 p.m.
- Most interesting thing we recently learned: Earlier this month, Chattanooga’s Cash Daniels was named one of America’s top 10 youth volunteers of 2021 by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards. Cash, a fifth-grader at Homelife Academy, has organized cleanup outings that have removed more than 11,000 pounds of trash from the Tennessee River, recycled more than 1,000 pounds of aluminum cans to raise money for river conservation, and installed fishing-line recycling receptacles along the river. Read more about his incredible accomplishments in our November 2020 story.
