Sequatchie commissioner charged with soliciting a child

A Sequatchie County Commissioner charged with child solicitation and sexual battery has been released from jail on a $15,000 signature bond, according to WRCB-TV.

Barnett “Barney” David Slatton, 34, of Lewis Chapel, was arrested at the Marion County High School football game Friday night, Dunlap Police Chief Clint Huth told the televisions station.

Chief Huth says Slatton had exchanged sexually explicit messages with a 17-year-old girl using a Blackberry Slatton had purchased for her, according to WRCB.

Police say the 17-year-old victim, and her parents, aided the DPD and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in a meeting with Slatton at the football game.

During the meeting, which was monitored by police using surveillance, Slatton allegedly asked the girl to have sex.
