It was really big news for Chattanooga in 2008 when Volkswagen decided to build its new automobile manufacturing plant here.
Now the big news in 2010 is the hiring of many people to construct the facilities that will make possible about 2,000 jobs for the people who will begin turning out many thousands of fine new cars in 2011.
Time flies! We’ll see much progress this year. VW is showing prototypes of the new mid-size cars that will be rolling off the production lines next year. There will be other local companies that will help supply VW’s many needs.
Our community is most fortunate to have VW here, and we believe VW is fortunate to have chosen Chattanooga for its new American development. All of us must cooperate constructively to make all concerned real “winners” in this great new local enterprise.
We are on the brink of a tremendous new economic opportunity that even the most optimistic among us cannot yet fully imagine.
