NAME: Corinne Hill
OCCUPATION: Executive Director, Chattanooga Public Library
HOMETOWN: Newfoundland, Canada
If there’s one thing Corinne Hill knows, its libraries. And not just the comforting smell of old books and yellowed pages of reference materials, but the inner workings of a 21st century library-one which caters to a new generation that values technological advances and connectivity above all. Hill, who was honored recently as Library Journal’s Librarian of the Year, is working diligently to transform the Chattanooga Public Library from an antiquated, little-used facility into an advanced creative hub that is attracting attention and admiration from around the world.
? I’ve been in the library business since ’95. I started in Dallas actually and I came into it at a really interesting time when the internet hit in the early ’90s. It was what attracted me to the business because it was transitioning from being a paper information society to being an electronic society.
