An elderly man suffered severe burns on over half his body from a brush fire in Harrison on Friday, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management.
Firefighters and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to the 9700 block of Snow Hill Road around 12:55 p.m. following a 911 call made by the man’s wife, who reported he was trapped in his truck and surrounded by a fire in their field.
Upon finding a barn, truck and field on fire at the scene, firefighters started spraying water on the truck to protect the man while other first responders carried him out of the field. The man was flown by Lifeforce to Grady Medical Center Burn Unit in Atlanta, Georgia.
Officials later learned the man had a burn in his field that got out of control due to windy conditions, the release states.
