Let’s credit hard work of firefighters

I would like to publicly thank the dedicated firefighters who responded to the Signal Mountain fire above our development of Falling Water Heights. The blaze began last Saturday morning and continues going up the mountain and away from our homes. Firefighters from neighboring communities have pitched in working long, strenuous hours to save our homes.

The Forest Service workers are still battling the blaze with the aid of water-dropping helicopters.

We at the upper end of the development will be eternally grateful to all who helped! A great big thank you!

Re-elect Signal’s Robert Spalding

Because of Dr. Robert Spalding’s hard work with the Hamilton County Emergency Management Agency and the Red Cross, there is now a permanent Red Cross disaster trailer located on Signal Mountain. For the first time, Signal Mountain now has a county wide EMA/Red Cross blanket insurance policy for our three designated shelter systems with our mountain schools. Dr. Spalding also was instrumental in requesting to start a Centennial Board Committee in preparation for the 100-year celebration of Signal Mountain’s incorporation in 2019. Dr. Spalding also requested the town, along with the Lions Club, revive the annual Sparkle Day to help clean up Signal Mountain. With the effort of numerous Signal Mountain residents, several hundred pounds of trash was collected. The council has also initiated a beautification committee to improve our mountain’s aesthetics.

Please remember all the deeds the Signal Mountain Council has accomplished, along with the efforts of Dr. Robert Spalding. I encourage you to re-elect Dr. Spalding for a second term for Signal Mountain councilman.

Good reasons to support Trump

Two reasons to vote for Donald Trump:

1. He is committed to securing the borders and enforcing immigration laws.

2. He is committed to nominating conservatives to the Supreme Court.

A vote for Clinton is a vote for four more years of what we have had to endure for the past eight years. Don’t be surprised to see Obama and the current attorney general as nominees to the Supreme Court if she is elected.

Reader commends photographer’s skill

Congratulations to TFP photographer Dan Henry on his masterful Page One photograph Thursday of a helicopter spreading water on the Signal Mountain fire. It brilliantly focused the article it accompanied.

Trump’s world a parallel universe

It’s ironic a guy who bragged about sexual assault assembled a news conference in his defense with women who were assaulted. Saying, in effect, I might be callow, but I’m not nearly as bad as this other guy who, incidentally, is not running for office. Also, fobbing off his lewd remark as “locker room talk” carries the implication he was lying then to bolster his ego. So which is it, irresistible stud or inveterate liar? Trump’s world is a parallel universe where the boundary between truth and lies no longer applies.

I have little faith in a format where the questioners were selected on the basis of being undecided voters. To be proudly undecided after a year and a half admits that one has been cave-bound, ignorantly unread or is blissfully uninformed.

Throughout the campaign, there has been a misleading notion of equivalency – that proposals and statements dripping of gross incompetence on one side are in every way equal to those of the other. This is the calculus of the bizarre. Whatever else one can say or claim, Trump has given clear and convincing evidence he does not have the capacity for the job.
