An early morning brush fire on Shell Mountain near Sevierville has garnered the resources of nearly a dozen fire departments and forced evacuations of residents.
Emergency dispatchers said the flames near Sharp Road off Jones Cove Road were reported about 2:30 a.m. With gusting winds, the flames quickly spread.
About 11 fire departments in the area have flocked to Shell Mountain to douse the flames, according to an emergency dispatcher. The state Forestry Division also has joined the battle.
