Skwalking Heads Productions will be teaching audiences at the Mountain Arts Community Center “How to Eat Like a Child…and Other Lessons in Not Being a Grown-up” Thursday and Friday, March 29 and 30 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 31 at 1 p.m.
“The entire show is lessons about how to be a kid,” said director Colleen Laliberte. “It’s one of my all-time favorite plays.”
Audience members will learn how to beg for a dog, pretend to be sick, laugh hysterically, torture a sibling and wait for a ride, among other skills at which children tend to be proficient.
“I love it because these situations are all universal,” said Laliberte, who feels the play will be enjoyable for all ages. “I think everyone can remember what it was like to be a kid, and the kids who come love it because it is so much fun.”
Based on the book “How to Eat Like a Child” by author and screenwriter Delia Ephron (“You’ve Got Mail,” “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”) with music and lyrics are written by John Forster, the musical comedy features 29 actors from Signal Mountain.
“It doesn’t have a lead star; it’s a true ensemble cast and everyone participates in creating these lessons,” said Laliberte, who has directed the play on multiple occasions. “It’s performed by kids for kids, so it’s a great opportunity to introduce young people to live theater.”
General admission to the show is $5.
