Considering the unpredictability of Tennessee’s weather, it’s usually a bad bet to bank on a snow day, no matter what the meteorologists are saying.
Unless, that is, you’re making it yourself. Even then, you’re best advised to take a more-is-better approach.
For Mellow Mushroom’s third annual Chattanooga Rail Jam, restaurateur Samantha Jones will tack on a few tons of artificial flakes, just in case Mother Nature decides to be especially fickle.
“We just wanted more snow,” says Jones, the owner of Mellow Mushroom, whose downtown location will serve as the hub of the jam on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 7.
“We wanted to make sure we had enough,” she continues. “The first year, we had four tons of snow, and it ended up being kind of warm, so we had to buy a lot of ice, which wasn’t awesome. We want them to have the best conditions that we can provide for them to snowboard.”
