A 60-year-old woman was killed Wednesday around 7 p.m. in a single-vehicle crash at 3800 Hixson Pike, according to a Chattanooga police statement.
The driver has been identified as Carolyn Manzer.
The Chattanooga Police Department’s Traffic/DUI Division investigated and determined a silver Scion iQ was traveling south of Hixson Pike through a curve when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle went straight ahead rather than around the curve, leaving the right side of the road and striking a telephone pole, police said. The Scion then became airborne and struck the steel I-beam base of a billboard sign with the roof of the vehicle “completely wrapping around the I-beam.”
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is continuing and police ask anyone with information regarding the crash to call 423-698-2525.
