Chocolate hearts, candy kisses and bouquets of bright red roses are Valentine’s Day staples.
But picking out the perfect gift for that special someone has evolved from a stroll to the local florist to a quick click on the Web.
“Instead of coming in now or calling in, they’ll go on the Internet,” said Debra Downey, manager of Downey’s Florist & Gift Gallery in Red Bank.
Ms. Downey has been working at the shop for 25 years. She has noticed that, especially within the past two years, more people are turning to the Internet to make their Valentine’s Day selections.
This year’s National Retail Federation Valentine’s Day Survey found that about 16 percent of people polled planned to shop solely online for the holiday.
