Baylor student ‘dismissed’ after bringing unloaded firearm to campus

A Baylor School student was “dismissed” after bringing an unloaded firearm to campus on Friday, school officials said.

Late Friday evening, school President Scott Wilson sent a letter to Baylor parents, telling them about “a situation that occurred on campus this afternoon.”

Wilson said that, after learning that a student had the firearm, officials located the student and confiscated the weapon.

“Law enforcement officials were immediately notified, and the student has been dismissed,” Wilson said in the letter.

In the letter, Wilson did not say what type of firearm the student was carrying or what grade the student was in.

Chattanooga police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary said she had no information on the incident, but was looking into it.

“Due to the fact that this is a police matter, we are not in a position to comment further,” Wilson said in his letter, “but I did want to make you aware of the facts before the rumors became rampant.”
