Members of the Soddy, Daisy & Montlake Historical Association will delve into a treasure trove of archives for their next History Fair on Saturday, Jan. 21. More than 70 tables of information and artifacts will be set up from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Soddy-Daisy High School.
Visitors can peruse pictures, genealogies, maps, letters, newspaper articles and relics relating to the Soddy, Daisy, Mowbray, Flattop Mountain and Montlake communities. Histories encompass American Indians, pioneer settlers, the Civil War and the pottery and coal mining periods in the area.
This is the third public event for the Soddy, Daisy & Montlake Historical Association, which was organized in September 2015. The fair is meant to help make known the wealth of historical information already being preserved by individuals and families as well as engage the community at large in collecting additional histories.
Leaders of the association say they are actively pursuing a museum to house and display a collection.
More information can be found on the association’s Facebook page and the new website, www.soddydaisymuseum.com.
