Hedrick, as judge, same as always

There is a reason our family supports Kyle Hedrick for Circuit Court judge. Often, when you see people in campaigns, they put on their best face. I can tell you Kyle, appointed as judge by Gov. Haslam last year, is the same man I’ve known for 30 years. He has served the community without public notice and developed a successful law practice.

I say this because his comments on his Facebook posts, at meet-and-greet events and in remarks during his campaign speeches are no different than the person I, along with so many others in Hamilton County, have known for decades. Kyle didn’t boost his resume or work for years behind the scenes helping others in our community to run for an office. He has not changed one bit to impress or gain anyone’s favor for their support.

In this day, it’s a value to know one’s integrity and hard work over the years are the same whether mentoring a student, packing food for mission trips, working for clients in court or wearing a robe in our Circuit Court. Judge Kyle Hedrick gets our family’s vote. I ask you to support him, too.

Don’t forget what Dems represent

Something to think about for the upcoming elections this year. Here is a list of the top three policy issues of the Democrats:

-Protecting illegal immigrants. This includes Dreamers but also establishing sanctuary cities and, in some cases, sanctuary states.

-The impeachment of President Trump. (U.S. Rep. Al Green of Texas forced a vote on impeachment that was supported by 66 Democrats.)

-Repeal of this year’s tax reform bill that lowered corporate and individual taxes. In other words, the Democrats want to raise taxes. (Nancy Pelosi likened the Trump tax package to Armageddon.)

Remember, a vote for a Democratic candidate is really a vote for Nancy Pelosi and/or Chuck Schumer.

Death penalty end helps with racism

Wednesday, April 4, was not only the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s assassination, it also was the day in Washington, D.C., when the National Council of Churches joined with the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty to kick off it’s Awaken, Confront, Transform (ACT) initiative to end racism.

By ending the death penalty, we can precipitate our nation’s healing around racism. To quote Dr. King, “returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.”
