On what would have been his 97th birthday, the children of the late John P. Franklin Sr. are announcing an effort to renovate a computer lab that benefits local students.

On Friday, April 26, Cheryl Franklin Key and John “Duke” Franklin Jr. will partner with the Bethlehem Center to refurbish the computer lab named for their father and located inside the center, according to a news release. The center is a nonprofit, faith-based agency dedicated to transforming lives and communities and has served the community for almost 100 years.

The lab is used by Howard School students and middle school students, as well as the community. An event to kick off the project will take place at 3 p.m. at the center, 200 W. 38th St.

Renovations are expected to start May 1 and be finished in June, the release states.
