Plants and trees are growing on top of the Creative Discovery Museum – on purpose.
“Chattanooga is becoming a very environmentally friendly city. This is a part of that and it’s a part of our initiative to educate children about the urban environment,” said the museum’s Executive Director Henry Schulson.
The museum is installing the largest green roof in Chattanooga, according to Randy Whorton of EVS, Inc., a division of Stein Construction. The green roof, funded by Stein Construction and greenspaces, is a $100,000 project, he said.
The roof is intended to lower the museum’s air conditioning expenses and decrease stormwater runoff.
It also shows that a garden of some type could be created almost anywhere, said Mr. Schulson.
