Senators correct on START treaty
“My only concern in consideration of this treaty has been the safety and security of the American people.”
With that ultimate justification, Sen. (Bob) Corker did the right thing for the United States and voted to ratify the New START Treaty. His vote and that of Tennessee’s other senator, (Lamar) Alexander, were pivotal in continuing the measured process, begun during the Reagan era, of reducing the strategic nuclear weapon stockpiles of both the U.S. and Russia.
Sens. Corker’s and Alexander’s push for the long overdue investments in modernization of the current nuclear arsenal, particularly Oak Ridge’s Y-12 complex, will ensure our weapons will continue to be maintained in a safe and effective condition.
Their effort will ensure the nuclear triad of bombers, ICBMs and Trident submarines remain a viable deterrent force into the future.
