River Gallery’s artists featured during June use unconventional methods in the construction their sculptures.
“Emerge,” opening Monday, showcases the glass constructions of Jacquelyne Collett and the steel figurative carvings of Russell Whiting.
Ms. Collett, a resident of Florida, fuses layers of glass during three firings for her elegant, geometric creations. The first firing sets up the background, the second adds surface color and the third fixes color details and copper.
“Then I use a photo-resist method to sandblast graphic images onto the glass which is then polished,” she says in her artist’s statement.
Sometimes she incorporates found objects.
