A Cleveland Middle School teacher has been placed on unpaid leave after he was charged with domestic assault this weekend, Cleveland City Schools announced Monday.

Jeffrey Robinson, 37, is accused of assaulting his 36-year-old girlfriend at her Cleveland residence on Sunday morning and leaving the woman with a “visible laceration and quarter-sized lump on her forehead,” according to a report written by a deputy with the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.

Robinson worked for Cleveland City Schools in the 2007-08 year and was reemployed by the system in 2011, according to a statement.

Robinson was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday and his first hearing is set for Sept. 3.

“This is a legal investigation, and we will wait to hear from the courts before taking any permanent action,” Cleveland City Schools director Marting Ringstaff said in a statement. “The safety and well-being of our students is our number one concern.
