Haley Cothran is entering an important summer.
Going into her senior year, the pint-sized Soddy-Daisy High School golfer has been in communication with about a dozen colleges.
“I want to see how I do this summer and go from there,” Cothran said Monday at Lookout Mountain Golf Club, where she tied for 16th in stroke-play qualifying for the Women’s Southern Amateur with a 6-over-par 78. “Some girls have made verbal decisions, and I want to be sure that I make the right choice because it’s the choice of a life.”
This week, Cothran is facing a field full of college stars, recent graduates and veteran amateurs who know their way around a golf course.
