In its first year of postseason eligibility, Dalton State College has reached the quarterfinals of the NAIA Division I men’s basketball tournament. The sixth-ranked Roadrunners defeated Evangel from Missouri 85-74 on Friday and will play No. 3 seed Cal State San Marcos at 11:30 a.m. EDT today in Memorial Auditorium. The Cougars (30-3) rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to edge Arizona Christian 61-59. NAIA rebounding leader Ladaris Green had 22 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots for Dalton State (29-4), and Jordan Bowling and Jamaine Burrey each had 17 points and three steals, Bowling adding seven rebounds. Swimming
* Baylor School and Baylor Swim Club athlete Trey Freeman broke the 13-14 national age-group record for the 200 LCM freestyle with a 1:53.31 Thursday night at the 2015 NCSA Junior National Championships in Orlando, Fla. The previous record of 1:53.52 was set in 2009 by current Stanford University junior Tom Kremer, who was third in 2013 and ninth in 2014 in the NCAA Championships 200 free. Freeman set a Southeastern Swimming 13-14 record in the 1000 free on Tuesday, with a 9:07.58 that made him sixth overall in the meet (against older swimmers) and is the fastest age-group time in the nation this year by 13 seconds — and the third fastest of all time. His 500-yard free time of 4:27.52 also was the fastest time in the country for his age this year. As the meet concludes, he will swim today in the 200 individual medley and 1650 freestyle.
