Valedictorians: Class of 2010

Dear me,

Where are you now at age 28? Did you complete your major in linguistics and your pre-medical studies? Or did you change majors? Did you complete a minor in music? How was medical school? Pediatrics?

Do you get to look into the adorable, innocent eyes of children each day? Oh, and most importantly… are you married?

Just kidding. I eagerly await the answers to those unknowns as I consider the known, for I know that the “eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to show Himself strong for those whose hearts are completely his” (2 Chronicles 16:9).

Time may pass, things may happen, but I know that neither age nor any other barriers will ever keep you from laughing, smiling, being silly, joking, dancing, dreaming … embracing each day.

You are so blessed, for God has surrounded you with amazing people, a family you can always lean on, and friends who will always hold you tightly.

Smile broader. Laugh louder. Hug tighter. Continue to live life with joy, pursue your passions, love others and leave the rest to God.

Dear me,

Ten years down the road, I hope your studies at Wake Forest University will have been successful enough to prepare you for admission to one of the top law schools in the country, at which you can study law and possibly enroll in a joint program, allowing you to earn an MBA at the same time.

With continued educational success and graduation from law school, I hope your qualifications will attract job offers from top law firms and corporations, where you can embark on a career in corporate law and business administration.

… I hope you become a leader in your community and participate in politics on some level. With financial stability, I hope you can start a family, while maintaining healthy friendships from high school, college, and your career.

Red Bank High School

Dear me,

I hope everything in your life is going well. I heard that you are teaching high school kids now. That is the perfect job for you.

I also heard that you are the head basketball coach, as well. Just always remember to try and be patient with your players, and coach them to become not only great players on the court, but also in the classroom.

As the Fellowship of Christian Athletes leader at your school, I hope you are creating a school huddle group that is full of young people ready to serve God. Always remember that the things you are teaching these kids in sports, clubs, and academics will stay with them the rest of their lives. You are setting the foundation for the future generation of this country as well as the future leaders of this nation.

By furthering high school student’s educations, you are giving them the tools they will need in order to succeed in life, so never take that responsibility lightly. I know you will do great in everything you do as long as you let God take control of your life and use you to change the world.

Hollie German

Polk County High School

Dear me,

In 10 years, I will have successfully completed medical school, and be well on my way to becoming a full-fledged pediatric physician. I will be using my newly acquired knowledge to help others.

I will have gone on several more mission trips, both domestic and abroad, to minister to the less fortunate, continuing to reach out to others, giving both my time and money. I will have further deepened my relationship with God and will continue to share His love with those around me.

Oscar Wilde once wrote, “Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”

I do not want to be someone else. Through life’s ups and downs, I will remain true to myself. I will still love to make music, have fun, and spend time with family and friends. I will still take time to smile, laugh and enjoy life. With the support of God, family, and friends, I know that I can achieve my dreams.
