Stuffing Strut helps North Hamilton causes

The Stuffing Strut is back for its second year at Chester Frost Park Thanksgiving Day beginning at 8 a.m.

Dallas Bay Baptist Church pastor Dr. Ken Duggan came up with the idea for the fundraising 5K last year.

“He wanted to do something for the North Hamilton County side of town,” said Sandy Weeks, president of the event’s board of directors. “He knew what it was like to need help.”

Last year the Stuffing Strut raised around $20,000, which was distributed evenly among several area schools and organizations in the amount of $2,300 each. Beneficiaries were Loftis Middle School, Soddy-Daisy Middle School’s Jim Wilson Fund, Hixson Middle School, Sale Creek Middle/High School’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program, the Soddy-Daisy Food Bank and the Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department.

The Fire Department gave its funds to the ladies’ auxiliary to purchase Christmas gifts for area children in need, said Weeks.
