The city of Chattanooga recently approved a $7.8 million project to seal, repair and replace pipes from East Brainerd to the edge of Ooltewah.
“We do not anticipate the work to have a large impact on residents or traffic,” said Chattanooga Public Works Administrator Lee Norris. “The majority of the work will take place underground, accessed through manholes, so minimal if any digging will be required.”
In the event of occasional lane closures, he said two-way traffic or alternate traffic flow measures will be put in place. No road closures are expected.
“We will communicate with residents through door hangers in the areas we will be working.,” said Norris. “This communication will include a phone number to call for additional information.”
The project will take 12-14 months to complete in entirety and is being paid for through a $33.1 million loan from the state, he said, adding that sewer fee increases are expected to help pay off the loan.
