No plans yet for fall break? Don’t fret – the MACC has a solution to keep kids’ boredom at bay and simultaneously save parents’ sanity.
The MACC is holding its first-ever Fall Break Camp Monday-Friday, Oct. 10-14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The deadline to register is Friday, Sept. 30.
“We thought we should put something together to keep kids occupied during fall break if they’re not going out of town, and the [MACC] teachers really grabbed onto the idea,” said MACC Director Barb Storm. “It’s the best opportunity on Signal Mountain to keep kids learning and creating when they’re not in school.”
The camp is designed for kids age 5 through middle school, and classes are broken up by age group, with campers ages 5-8 separated from those ages 9 and older, she said.
Kids can sign up for camps that last the whole day, such as Adventure and Science Camp or Film Camp, or piece together their own programs by signing up for a variety of shorter classes according to their interests. Single classes will be held for just a few hours each day.
Options include a fall and Halloween-themed painting party, martial arts, dance, fitness, film, photography, pottery, and a class in which participants create their own Halloween costumes.
“We put a lot of work into making it fun and exciting,” said Storm. “There won’t be a dull class among them.”
The cost camp varies according to the classes selected, and payment is collected from participants by the class instructors. Free before-camp care is available starting at 8:30 a.m. each day, and after-camp care is offered, for an extra charge, daily until 5 p.m.
And to make things even easier, attendees have the option to add a week’s worth of lunches provided by 517 Subs for $25.
